  - red worsted weight cotton yarn
  - white worsted weight cotton yarn

With red yarn - Ch 4.
Sl st in beg ch to form circle.
 
Row 1: Ch 3, 5 dc, 1 trc, 6 dc in ring.
       Ch 2, sl st to center of ring, ch 2.
       Sl st in top of beg ch 3.(15 sts)
Row 2: Ch 2, 1 dc in same sp as ch 2. 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, (1 dc, 1 trc, 1 dc) in next trc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in each of last 2 dc. (21 sts) Ch 2, turn.
Row 3: 1 dc in same sp as ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 3 dc, (1 dc, 1 trc, 1 dc) in next trc, 1 dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in each of last 2 dc, Ch 2, turn. (29 sts)
Row 4: 1 dc in same sp as ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, (1 dc, 1 trc, 1 dc) in next trc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc, 2 dc in each of last 2 dc. (37 sts)
Row 5: Ch 2, turn. 1 dc in same sp as ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, (1 dc, 1 trc, 1 dc) in next trc, 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc, 2 dc in each of last 2 dc. (38 sts) Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each dc, 3 sc in trc (tip of valentine), sc in each dc to end of row. End off. Make another exactly as above. Join together as follows: With white...and holding two pieces together...join with sl st in any sc. Sc in each sc to tip of valentine. 3 sc in sc at tip. Continue with sc in each remaining sc.
