Free Pattern for Crochet Poinsettia Christmas Hotmat

Materials: 4:50 mm crochet hook
worsted weight cotton yarns - off white, red and green
Rnd 1: With off white, ch 4, sl st in 1st ch to form ring,
ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join with sl st in 1st sc.
(8 sc in ring)
Rnd 2:ch 2, insert hook, (yarn over, draw thru 2 lps)twice.
Yarn over and draw thru all lps to form cluster. Ch 2.
*(yarn over, draw thru 2 lps) 3 times.
Yarn over and draw thru all lps on hook.
Repeat from * 6 times more. (8 clusters in round).
Rnd 3: - Petals - Join red yarn with a sl st in any ch 2 space.
Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hk,
(hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in each of next 2 ch,
dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch),
sl st in last ch.
Now working on opposite side of ch: sl st in 1st ch,
sc in next ch; Repeat from ( ), join, fasten off.
Work petals as rnd 3 in each of the ch 2 spaces. (8 petals in rnd)
Rnd 1: With green, ch 4, sl st in 1st st to form ring.
ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join with sl st in top
of beg ch 3 (12 dc in rnd)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, 2 dc in ea st around, join (24 dc)
Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in next st,
(dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) around, join (36 dc)
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in next st, 2 dc in nexxt st,
(dc in ea of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st) around, join (48)
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in ea of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st,
(dc in ea of next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st) around, join (60)
Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in ea of next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st,
(dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st) around, join (72)
Rnd 7: Ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st,
(dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st) around, join.(84)
Edging: ch 1, *sc in next 6 dc, ch 3, sc in next dc.
Repeat from * around. End off.
Place poinsettia on top of hotmat. Sew into place as shown.
For extra table protection, make two hotmats leaving the edging
until last, then put two hotmats together with edging as above.
